W. Black wagyu leads charge on stunner 2024 competition season

Andrews Meat Industries has enjoyed a stellar competition season, with accolades pouring in from across the nation. At the forefront of this success is export wagyu brand W. Black which, after claiming Grand Champion at the Queensland Royal Awards, went on to secure gold at the recent Sydney Royal Branded Meat Competition.

In Sydney last week, W. Black earned an impressive score of 91.83, securing a gold medal in the Class 5 - Open Beef, High Marble Score 6+ category.

Launched in 2018, W. Black is the latest premium Wagyu offering from Andrews Meat Industries. Available mainly in the United States, Japan, and the Middle East, it can also be found domestically at select venues.

Through the year to date Andrews Meat Industries, alongside its sous-vide division Creative Food Solutions, secured a total of 27 medals through various beef, smallgoods, and premium cooked meat competitions across Australia.

Peter Andrews, CEO of Andrews Meat Industries, commented on the exceptional performance of both W. Black and the company’s wider product range.

“For a first year in competition, W. Black has achieved remarkable success. Receiving a gold medal at the Sydney Royal is testament to the expertise and care of the many people through our supply chain that produce quality wagyu, and it’s a great way to end the competition season,” Peter said.

“In our smallgoods and sous-vide ranges, the results we’re seeing reflect the level of quality produce and attention to detail that the team puts into their work every day. It is a great honour to see their passion and hard work being recognised.”

Taking out silver medals in the Sydney Royal competition were Tajima Australian Grainfed Wagyu, Tajima Smallgoods salami and pastrami, and three sausage varieties: lamb with mint & feta (thick), wagyu and Spanish onion jam (thick), and lamb merguez (thick).

Meanwhile, the Tajima Wagyu Bresaola was awarded gold medals for the Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards and the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show, with scores of 93.5 and 96.33 respectively.

Sous-vide specialists Creative Food Solutions also enjoyed success with its Beef Short Ribs winning gold and Brisket Rueben taking bronze at the Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards.
